Tororo LC5 Chairperson blast rival for using stolen money in recent campaigns.

Source:Juma Seyyid-Tororo  Okea John, the Tororo District LC5 Chairman who has won a second term has blasted his main rival OBBO John for using stolen money to try to dislodge him from the district seat. Speaking on Sunday during his thanksgiving ceremony at Morikiswa primary school in Kisoko sub county, West Budama North in Tororo District, Okea thanked the people of Tororo for overwhelmingly voting for him. Okea(NRM) garnered about 140.000 while rival Obbo( independent) came second with about 40.000 votes. " I want to thank all of you for turning up in large numbers today to join me thank God and celebrate this victory. I never wanted to say this during my campaigns. But today let me say it. The Chinese Government to remove taxes on Ugandan exports

The revelation was made by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during the send-off of the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, H.E.  Zhang Lizhong, who paid a courtesy call on him at his country home in Kisozi, Gomba District. The President congratulated H.E Lizhong upon completing his tour of duty in Uganda. While expressing gratitude to the Chinese government and the working relationship between Uganda and China, President Museveni disclosed that Uganda’s exports to China have increased to USD 138 million, although he was optimistic that this was still not low, and expects Uganda to do much better. On his part, Ambassador Lizhong expressed gratitude to the President and the Ugandan government for the support and collaboration extended to him throughout his tenure.

Hon Shyam Jay Tanna the New MP Elect for Tororo Municipality

  Residents of Tororo municipality went into wild celebrations on 15 January 2026 after results from the polling stations indicated that 28-year-old Shyam Jay Tanna was leading incumbent MP Yeri Apollo Ofwono. Shyam’s victory marked the end of the old guard's rule , which had torn the cosmopolitan municipality apart on tribal grounds and long-term rivalry between Ofwono and Sanjay Tanna, a former area MP who is his uncle and mentor. Shyam, who contested on an independent ticket, was declared the winner of the Tororo municipality race by the returning officer Robert Twirize after garnering 5,781 votes against Ofwono of the National Resistance Movement [NRM] ticket, who got 4,829 votes. As the country heads to the polls on Thursday, 15 January 2026, all Government MDAs will remain operating smoothly during and after the general elections. This was disclosed by the Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), Col. Edith Nakalema,  on 12th January , 2026 , during a pre-election media briefing with heads of government agencies, held at SHIPU offices in Kampala. While speaking in Kampala,  Col. Children killed after drone hits home in Sudan, medics say

  At least 13 people have been killed - eight of them children - after a drone strike on a house in the Sudanese city of el-Obeid, says the Sudan Doctors' Network. Most of the dead were part of the same family, the medical group added. Although no group has claimed responsibility, the medics say the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out the attack in an area controlled by the army, and which it has been trying to penetrate for months. As the civil war between Sudan's army and RSF rebels approaches its third year, the scale of suffering has seen it described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis by the UN and aid agencies. To date, more than 11 million people have been forced from their homes by the violence, and hundreds of thousands of people have been killed.  Widespread sexual violence is also being used as a weapon of war .
