Rugunda hails Museveni for improving life expectancy, cutting infant mortality rate

Rukiga, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |   Former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has praised President Yoweri Museveni for what he described as major improvements in Uganda’s health indicators, noting significant gains in life expectancy and reductions in infant mortality. Rugunda made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing NRM supporters gathered at Rushebeya in Rukiga District. “We should thank the President by giving all our votes to him. Even Fr Gaetano has agreed to vote for our candidate,” Rugunda told the crowd. He said government-led health interventions, especially universal immunisation, had transformed the lives of Ugandans over the last decades. “Life expectancy of Ugandans has gone up. It was at 43 years, now it is 68. This deserves appreciation,” he said. Rugunda added that infant mortality had fallen sharply: “Years back the infant mortality rate used to be 122 deaths per 1,000 children.   The Special Forces Command (SFC) and Uganda Police Force have been applauded for enhancing national security through continued cooperation between the two institutions. This was during the pass-out of 125 Presidential Protection Guard (PPG) officers who completed a four-month Tier 2 VVIP protection course at VVIPTS–Sera Kasenyi on Saturday 22nd November 2025. The Chief guest, Brig Gen. Paul Namawa, the SFC Chief of Staff, thanked the SFC Commander and the Inspector General of Police for supporting joint training efforts that enhance national security. They have done it. After 27 years of hurt,  Scotland  have qualified for the  World Cup  after an unbelievable 4-2 win over Hampden Park. For long periods,  Denmark  absolutely dominated the hosts and  Steve Clarke’s  men looked destined for the play-offs. Scotland needed to win to ensure automatic qualification at Denmark’s expense and the two teams switched between top spot and second place during a pulsating 90 minutes.  Scott McTominay  scored arguably the best goal in Scotland’s history with an incredible bicycle kick after just three minutes as the home support erupted. President Reassures Tororo People on the Districts Division..

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reassured the people of Tororo that the government has completed its part in resolving the long-standing administrative and district boundary questions raised by Tororo leaders. Recently, the government resolved to elevate Tororo Municipality to city status, making it a neutral administrative unit and creating three new districts from the current Tororo District to accommodate the different communities. The districts include Mukuju , Mulanda and Kisoko .
