Governments urged to construct Roads with Pedestrian walkways.

The Call was made by delegates at the Global Road Safety for leaders organized by the John Hopkins University international Research injury with support from Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety [BIGRS] which has trained Global Road Safety leaders since 2016.

The training was for the first time held in Africa and selected policy makers from Africa were invited for the engagement especially from countries with high accident incidents and those who have made progress in reducing road traffic injuries and deaths. 

Uganda was represented among others by the former state  minister for health and state minister for minerals who attended the meeting function as a Road Safety Champion from Parliament and Member of the Parliamentary Forum on Road safety.

Hon Sarah Opendi Achieng who doubles as a member of Parliament for Tororo district appreciated that she was privileged to attend the engagement  as a Road safety advocate for this Global Road Safety Ambassadors engagement and pledged to continue advocating for safe roads.

African Government were challenged to construct roads with pedestrians and cyclists ways as the first step to Organize and Maintain road Safety. 

The Organizers equally observed, African governments currently construct roads for cars without walkways for pedestrians or lanes for cyclists making it dangerous hence the high death incidences on African Roads through accidents, leaving Many pedestrians and cyclists knocked dead daily, A case in point Vulnerable road users like (motorcyclists, pedestrians, and bicyclists) accounted for 94% of the reported road traffic fatalities in 2022.

Hon Sarah Achieng Opendi disclosed that she  was privileged to attend the engagement as a Road Safety Champion from Parliament and Member of the Parliamentary Forum on Road safety.
