Kalait residents decry surging cases of livestock theft.

Residents of Kalait Sub County here in Tororo district are currently spending sleepless nights following increases cases of animal theft.

Residents claim that the thieves target cows and goats hence posing a security threat in the village since this are the major source of livelihood and they are now calling upon police to intervene.

The recent one being theft of two cows belonging to Akisokot Suzan Nola a widow and a resident of Akouketom village in Amoni parish Kalait sub county.

Akisokot claims that her two lactating cows one being cross breed red with white spots and the other black with white spots went missing on the night of Monday. 

She told Rock radio that theft of her two cows has open roof for poverty in her family because this was the only source of livelihood she had banked on.

Meanwhile the Kalait sub county LCIII chairperson Jimmy Oteba has condemned the act saying that the act has threatened livestock farmers in the entire sub county.

He has then village chairpersons to rejuvenate vigilante teams so that they can team up with police to assist in conducting operations mainly at night.
