Osukuru town authorities rally traders, residents embrace good hygiene and sanitation practices.

Osukuru town council Local authorities in Tororo district have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly urban environment through a large-scale clean-up drive across the Town Council.

The initiative brought together town council officials, private stakeholders, and members of the public in a united effort to promote hygiene and environmental responsibility.

The clean-up exercise saw participation of various town council officials and private sector stakeholders.

The launch of this exercise comes after a health report of residents resorting to use kavera as toilets that could in-turn be dangerous to the communities within the Town Council area

The exercise was lead by  the town council LC3 chairperson Stanlauis Ofwono Toto who  emphasized the importance of community ownership in cleanliness and environmental care.

‘’Cleanliness is next to godliness. Let’s make this a habit, not just an event,” said Ofwono, urging business owners to take responsibility for their surroundings and waste disposal.

During the event launch, Ofwono encouraged businesses and traders to adopt securing the town as a part of the broader clean-up participation.

Meanwhile The town clerk Sabano Samali Epiat said the initiative is part of the response to the directive of the minister of local government asking urban authorities to observe basic hygiene and sanitation, saying that community participation is essential for the success of the initiative.

She said the monthly event serves as a launching pad for more collaborative efforts aimed at transforming Osukuru town council to a model urban centre

She announced that the town council will officially continue to observe a monthly clean up every last Friday of the month to ensure its sustainability efforts.

She said the town council has secured land to host the garbage site and that they are also in the final stages of acquiring a garbage truck

Meanwhile the council’s speaker Jacob Owane thanked the council for coming up with the initiative and encouraged the law enforcement teams to ensure that the initiative is given more attention adding that
