FACTSHEET ON BUKEDEA

Population & Administration:

Bukedea district has 16 Sub-Counties/Town Councils, 152 parishes and 336 villages.

The population of Bukedea is 282,864 according to the census report 2024.

Electoral Data:
In 2025, Bukedea district has a total of 126,678 voters. The Polling Stations are 300 up from 180 in 2021.

In the 2021 presidential elections, Bukedea had 99,828 registered voters. Out of these, 61,724 (61.8%) voted.
Yoweri Museveni polled 37,509 (64.2%) while NUP polled 4,980 (8.5%), Amuriat (FDC) polled 14,331 (24.47%). The others polled 1,756 (2.9%).

Health Sector:
        2 Health Centre IVs and 9 Health Centre IIIs


Water Sector:
Lake Kyoga Gravity Flow Scheme will cover Ngora, Kumi, Katakwi, Bukedea, and Kapelebyong.

Safe water coverage:
  • 80% Bukedea’s rural villages have safe water  with Two major piped water systems-_In Bukedea Town Council and Kachumbala Town
  •   Serving more than 28,000 people combined.

  • Piped water systems are being developed in Aloet and Amus Towns

Bukedea Gravity Flow Scheme
  • Will serve both Bukedea and Kween districts
Water-for-production projects Under Construction

  • Acomai Irrigation Scheme, 
  • valley dams, and 
  • small-scale irrigation systems in Komuge and Malera Sub-counties to boost agricultural productivity.
Education.
  • Primary: 98 government primary schools.
  • Secondary: 9 government secondary schools. but 10 sub-counties do not have a secondary school.
  • Seed Secondary Schools Two New Seed Secondary Schools under constructions and Bukedea Secondary School will be rehabilitated.
Health Sector:
  • 2 Health Centre IVs 
  • 9 Health Centre IIIs, Operational.
  • Several HCII upgrades and new HCIIIs planned in Komuge, Aligoi, Kwarikwar, and Koena sub-counties.
  • Houses for health workers under Plan.
AGRICULTURE:

  • Model farmers in Akwarikwar Sub County in Bukedea district received the seventh shipment of high-breed goats from the president’s office as part of the program to alleviate poverty. 175 high-breed goats from the state house under the program of poverty alleviation.” Provided to farmers.
