Former Nigerian minister sentenced to 75 years in Prison a rare corruption Case verdict

A Nigerian Court has sentenced a former power Minister to 75 years in prison for Money Laundering  33.8bn naira ($24.7m; £18.5m), in a rare conviction against corrupt officials in the West ​African nation. Mr. Saleh Mamman was found guilty of 12 counts, including using private firms to funnel money linked to government-funded power plants. The 68-year-old was sentenced in absentia on Wednesday - according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mamman has been "out of circulation" and "without trace" since his conviction. Museveni appoints Moses Kazibwe deputy chief justice

President Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as Deputy Chief Justice and Agnes Alum as Chief Registrar, pending parliamentary approval.  In a letter dated Thursday, 14th May 2026, President Museveni has also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar. Under Uganda's judicial structures, the Deputy Chief Justice deputizes the Chief Justice in the administration of the Judiciary and also heads the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court. The State House said Justice Kazibwe's name has already been forwarded to parliament for vetting before his formal assumption of office. The office of the Chief Registrar Fell vacant after Sarah Langa Siu was appointed a High Court judge last year. Meanwhile, Ms Pamela Lamunu Ocaya has been serving in an acting capacity for more than a year. 

President Museveni Lauds China’s Strong Partnership With Uganda

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the strong and historic relations between Uganda and China, describing China as a reliable partner that has consistently supported Uganda’s development and economic transformation. The President made the remarks at State House, Entebbe, while meeting Mr. Losang Jamcan, the Special Envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who represented the Chinese leader at President Museveni’s recent inauguration ceremony. Mr. Losang conveyed President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory message to President Museveni upon his re-election and reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Uganda. Construction of Shs. 1.9 billion diagnostic facility kicks off in Tororo.

Joint Medical Stores (JMS) in partnership with Tororo Archdiocese is putting   up the first diagnostic facility in Tororo district, a move leaders say will expand access to timely, affordable testing and imaging services. The 1.9 billion shillings facility is planned to provide expanded laboratory services, digital imaging (X‑ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI), fluoroscopy, endoscopy, pathology, and integrated outpatient diagnostic clinics  The facility located at St. Anthony Hospital  was officially flagged off today (Friday) by the Archbishop of Tororo, Dr. Emmanuel Obbo, bringing relief to patients, caregivers, and staff who have long grappled with overcrowding, long waits, and fragmented testing services. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Archbishop said the facility will help to reduce the long distances patients travel in search of specialized care. Hundreds displaced as R. Malaba bursts its banks.

More than 100 families in Malaba town council, Tororo district, are counting losses after River Malaba burst its banks, washing away crops and destroying property. The affected villages include: Amoni ‘’A’’ and Amoni ‘’B’’ cells in Asinge Ward, as well as Kataboi ‘’A’’ and Kataboi ‘’B’’ cells in Akolodongo Ward that neighbor the river banks. For several years, these areas have been prone to floods as a result of rivers bursting their banks, leaving residents homeless and others dead. According to Cosmas Ekisa, the chairperson of LCI Amoni ‘’A’’ Cell, River burst its banks on the wee hours of Sunday, washing away crops and livestock in the area. “This is a very big challenge to the people of this area because they have lost most of their property because the river burst its banks at the wee hours, when most people who could have come for their rescue were asleep,” he said. Tororo registers high demand for electric bikes as fuel crisis bites.

As petrol prices spike and queues lengthen at pumps, commuters and delivery companies are turning to electric bicycles, retailers and Tororo municipality officials say.   The shift is visible on town streets and in shopping windows.    Where only months ago commuters juggled Taxi pool plans, e-bikes from compact foldable to cargo models now share bike lanes in growing numbers. Thomas Emuruukut said E-bike dealers in the Bukedi region report waiting lists, and manufacturers are ramping up production to meet a surge in orders. He says people who wouldn’t have considered an e-bike before are coming in every day.    Emurukut told Rock Radio that they are seeing everything from students and professionals to parents and couriers, adding that it’s a practical, lower-cost alternative when fuel is so uncertain.   He says e-bikes have taken centre stage because drivers cite sharply higher petrol prices and rationing in some areas as primary motivators. ...

Tororo Bishop condemns rise in defilement cases.

  Tororo worship Centre  Bishop  Julius Omoit has expressed deep alarm at a recent surge in defilement cases and called for urgent, coordinated action to protect children and support survivors. Speaking while officiating at the handover of scholastic materials to orphans and vulnerable children donated by the church under Father’s Destiny International, the bishop described reports from parishes and clergy that more survivors and families are coming forward, and urged authorities and faith communities to act decisively. He condemned the violence and abuse in the strongest terms, urging law enforcement to investigate promptly and prosecute perpetrators to the full extent of the law.
