Tororo Bishop condemns rise in defilement cases.

 

Tororo worship Centre Bishop Julius Omoit has expressed deep alarm at a recent surge in defilement cases and called for urgent, coordinated action to protect children and support survivors.

Speaking while officiating at the handover of scholastic materials to orphans and vulnerable children donated by the church under Father’s Destiny International, the bishop described reports from parishes and clergy that more survivors and families are coming forward, and urged authorities and faith communities to act decisively.

He condemned the violence and abuse in the strongest terms, urging law enforcement to investigate promptly and prosecute perpetrators to the full extent of the law.

The bishop’s response follows reports in the drop in numbers of children being supported by the church under Father’s Destiny International.

The bishop asked churches and community leaders to intensify child-protection measures: background checks for workers and volunteers, clear reporting procedures, safeguarding training, and safe spaces for children.

He also pledged pastoral care and practical support for survivors and their families; including counseling, medical assistance, and legal help, and encouraged anyone with information to come forward to the authorities or trusted church representatives. The bishop called on government agencies, civic groups, schools, and faith communities to work together on prevention through education, awareness campaigns, and stronger social services.

Finally, he appealed to the wider public to remain vigilant, to prioritize the welfare of children above shame or secrecy, and to commit to zero tolerance for any form of sexual abuse.

Benard Okongo the Rubongi sub county LC3 vice chairperson appealed to the parents to ensure that they give protection to the girl children to avoid situation where they are sexually abused.

He also urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the scholastic materials they have been supported with so that they will also support those in need when they grow up.

Meanwhile Dan Barfia the organization’s patron challenged girl children to abstain from sex to allow them concentrate with their studies adding that their future depends on themselves.
