Museveni appoints Moses Kazibwe deputy chief justice



President Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as Deputy Chief Justice and Agnes Alum as Chief Registrar, pending parliamentary approval. 

In a letter dated Thursday, 14th May 2026, President Museveni has also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar.

Under Uganda's judicial structures, the Deputy Chief Justice deputizes the Chief Justice in the administration of the Judiciary and also heads the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court.

The State House said Justice Kazibwe's name has already been forwarded to parliament for vetting before his formal assumption of office.

The office of the Chief Registrar Fell vacant after Sarah Langa Siu was appointed a High Court judge last year. Meanwhile, Ms Pamela Lamunu Ocaya has been serving in an acting capacity for more than a year.
