A Nigerian Court has sentenced a former power Minister to 75 years in prison for Money Laundering  33.8bn naira ($24.7m; £18.5m), in a rare conviction against corrupt officials in the West ​African nation. Mr. Saleh Mamman was found guilty of 12 counts, including using private firms to funnel money linked to government-funded power plants. The 68-year-old was sentenced in absentia on Wednesday - according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mamman has been "out of circulation" and "without trace" since his conviction. President Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as Deputy Chief Justice and Agnes Alum as Chief Registrar, pending parliamentary approval.  In a letter dated Thursday, 14th May 2026, President Museveni has also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar. Under Uganda's judicial structures, the Deputy Chief Justice deputizes the Chief Justice in the administration of the Judiciary and also heads the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court. The State House said Justice Kazibwe's name has already been forwarded to parliament for vetting before his formal assumption of office. The office of the Chief Registrar Fell vacant after Sarah Langa Siu was appointed a High Court judge last year. Meanwhile, Ms Pamela Lamunu Ocaya has been serving in an acting capacity for more than a year. 

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the strong and historic relations between Uganda and China, describing China as a reliable partner that has consistently supported Uganda’s development and economic transformation. Joint Medical Stores (JMS) in partnership with Tororo Archdiocese is putting   up the first diagnostic facility in Tororo district, a move leaders say will expand access to timely, affordable testing and imaging services. The 1.9 billion shillings facility is planned to provide expanded laboratory services, digital imaging (X‑ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI), fluoroscopy, endoscopy, pathology, and integrated outpatient diagnostic clinics  The facility located at St. Anthony Hospital  was officially flagged off today (Friday) by the Archbishop of Tororo, Dr. Emmanuel Obbo, bringing relief to patients, caregivers, and staff who have long grappled with overcrowding, long waits, and fragmented testing services. More than 100 families in Malaba town council, Tororo district, are counting losses after River Malaba burst its banks, washing away crops and destroying property. The affected villages include: Amoni ‘’A’’ and Amoni ‘’B’’ cells in Asinge Ward, as well as Kataboi ‘’A’’ and Kataboi ‘’B’’ cells in Akolodongo Ward that neighbor the river banks. For several years, these areas have been prone to floods as a result of rivers bursting their banks, leaving residents homeless and others dead. According to Cosmas Ekisa, the chairperson of LCI Amoni ‘’A’’ Cell, River burst its banks on the wee hours of Sunday, washing away crops and livestock in the area. “This is a very big challenge to the people of this area because they have lost most of their property because the river burst its banks at the wee hours, when most people who could have come for their rescue were asleep,” he said. As petrol prices spike and queues lengthen at pumps, commuters and delivery companies are turning to electric bicycles, retailers and Tororo municipality officials say.   The shift is visible on town streets and in shopping windows.    Where only months ago commuters juggled Taxi pool plans, e-bikes from compact foldable to cargo models now share bike lanes in growing numbers. Thomas Emuruukut said E-bike dealers in the Bukedi region report waiting lists, and manufacturers are ramping up production to meet a surge in orders. Malaba Town Council will spend over 978 million shillings in the new financial year 2026/2027 with the focus on Infrastructure and Services. The council presided over by the council speaker Julius Odiye voted unanimously to adopt a budget of outlining planned spending for the year beginning July 2026. According to the budget presented by the  Malaba Town Council Vice LC3 chairperson Rose Kayanga who doubles as the secretary finance, the budget is prioritizing road upgrades, sanitation, health services and tourism-related infrastructure as the town seeks to balance development with rising service demands.   Former Malaba town council LCIII chairperson George Alfred Obore cheats death by a whisker. Obore was this after involved in a nasty accident in Rock high school in Tororo town. According to eye witness, Obore who was driving from the direction of Tororo hospital just joined Uhuru drive without stopping prompting a vehicle that was coming from Tororo town towards Tororo police to ram into him. He was rushed to Tororo hospital for medical checkup as the traffic team took charge of the heavy traffic flow.

The defence team in the High Court hearing of the Christopher Okello Onyum, the prime suspect in the murder of four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre, has closed it’s defence after it failed to trace the two defence witness to appear before court. Richard Kumbuga, the lead defence lawyer told court that the witnesses phone numbers were unreachable and their addresses were not provided by Okello. “My lord, the matter today is for defence witnesses, I’ve been informed by the process server, that the intended witness to appear today in court, he couldn’t be found, and the affidavit is on court record” he said. Kumbuga noted that the same position was discussed with Okello and agreed to close the defence case since the witnesses couldn’t be located to appear before the court. The dream was on Saturday confirmed by Lambert Okure the principal Jinja YMCA College of business studies during a planning meeting held at Amagoro B central village in Tororo municipality. Okure said they were extremely excited to have a new branch opening in Tororo to provide holistic educational skills development to hundreds of youth who will benefit from it. He challenged the main brain behind the initiative Paul Obbo to ensure that he registered more members from the current 23 to at least 200 have the branch opened by September this year. Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament Helen Nakimuli has died, her party the National Unity Platform has said. The party confirmed that Nakimuli died following an unsuccessful surgery, although details surrounding the procedure and circumstances of her death were still limited by press time. In a statement, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi described her passing as “terrible and shocking news,” underscoring the sudden nature of the loss. “Hellen Nakimuli was a devoted leader whose service to her people was marked by courage, humility, and unwavering commitment,” Kyagulanyi said. “Her passing is not only a loss to NUP but to Uganda as a whole.” Details of the cause of death or where she passed on from remain scanty as several efforts to contact her relatives have been futile.
