Emorimor rallies parents on education

The paramount cultural leaders of Iteso Cultural Institution, Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot, have urged parents across the kingdom to make education their top priority, saying that the future of the community rests on well-educated children.

Speaking to the mourners at the burial of a retired prison officer, the late Aloni Obarasa Emolot, in Angolol North Mella Sub-County in Tororo District today, the paramount leader called for greater parental involvement in both the day-to-day schooling and long-term planning for children’s education.

He emphasized that parental support — including ensuring regular school attendance, providing a stable study environment at home, and engaging with teachers and parent-teacher associations — is as important as government funding and school infrastructure.

He highlighted the need to end practices that keep children out of school, including child labor and early marriage, and to ensure girls and vulnerable children have equal access to learning.

The cultural leader urged traditional leaders, religious institutions, and local councils to join forces in mobilizing resources, mentoring young people, and promoting vocational and technical training alongside formal schooling.

He suggested community-driven initiatives such as scholarship funds, school maintenance committees,, and adult literacy programs to boost the overall learning environment.

Rev. Benjamin Ikemer, the retired priest at Bukedi diocese, who was the chief preacher, welcomed the emphasis on partnership, saying it could strengthen outcomes for the next generation.

He praised him for putting the education of his children as a priority.
