A man believed to be in his 40's has been lynched by an irate mob for allegedly stealing two goats and a sheep here in Tororo district.
The incident occurred in Nyalaot village Nyalakot sub county.
The yet to be identified victim who did not have identification documents on him, and was also a stranger in the area was today intercepted as he ferried the two animals on a motorcycle as him an his rider were heading to Malaba border.
The rider managed to elude arrest and he rid off
Residents became suspicious because they rod in high speed despite attempts to stop them by market dues collectors stagged at Koitangiro primary school.
The residents first took time to task him to prove if the animals were his own, he reportedly failed.
His behavior according to the locals pointed to theft, although no one had claimed loss of his animals.
The locals started beating him before he abandoned the motorcycle and run off.
The angry residents then chased him from Koitangiro village, through Total trading centre, and after they managed to surround him at Nyalakot village.
According to Robert Odwe Etyang, one of the residents when he was asked why he steals, he responded that he was struggling to make ends meet.
He said the locals severely beat and stoned him on the head.
Odwe says the interception with the subsequent mob action was prompted by the rampant livestock theft in this sub-county.
He says recently, a number of goats were stolen from locals something that left them charged against the perpetrator. By press time police had not responded but the dead body was lying along the road side and a he-goat he allegedly stole tied on his thigh.
