Tororo communities hit by water crisis after bursting of water transmission pipe.
More than 90% of areas relying on the National Water and Sewerage Corporation line in Tororo district are experiencing water shortage after a water transmission pipe at the main water treatment plant busting.
The Monday evening incident left even the high lift pump house partially de-roofed the water high lift pump house roof.
Speaking to the press, the manager National Water and Sewerage Corporation Tororo area George Ongwech confirmed the incident saying that all is being done to restore water to customers served by the water plant.
Inspecting the ongoing restoration works at the high lift water pump house, Ongwech explained that the inlet pipe was dislodged as a result of pressure surge that forced the main pipe to burst.
He noted that the pipe burst coincides with the ongoing upgrade of the water supply system in which the corporation is putting interventions to increase water supply to meet the increasing demand of water in area of coverage.
He disclosed that the corporation is upgrading the capacities of Centrifugal water pumps from 180 cubic liters per hour to 285 cubic liters per hour and from 102 cubic litres per hour to 280 cubic litres per hour respectively.
Ongwech added that the occurrence has given their technical teams an opportunity to build capacity to handle emergencies on the new system as the corporation prepares to go full blast.
He said he is aware of the challenges that their customers undergo but he encouraged users to consider installing water reservoirs to help them store water and sparing use when such incidents occur.
