Government picks Tororo central market to pilot Vendor management system.
Tororo central market has been chosen by the ministry of local government as one of the markets in Uganda to pilot the yet to be introduced Vendor management system (VMS) .
The vendor management system is a new digital platform that ministry of local government contracted Interswitch to develop. The company is currently in a trial and Tororo central market has been chosen among the organized markets in the country to pilot the program.
VMS aims to simplify vendors’ revenues management for local government market, extending digital e-commerce and financial inclusion to vendors
Under this system, all lock ups, pitches, stalls will be freshly captured and all vendors will be re- registered and put in the system for easy monitoring
This system will enable government to monitor the progress of lock ups payments by vendors and also track defaulters. The system will also enable government to have proper vendors data base for easy planning when it comes to social fund interventions.
Speaking during an entry meeting at the Tororo municipal council chambers today, the principal urban officer in the ministry of local government Julius Kasereke asked vendors to embrace this system because it intends to address the major challenges they face in throughout the country
He also believes that the system intends to create more interactive platform between the vendors and the technical officers for easy management of the markets
Romanus Okoth Kitong the Tororo municipal council deputy town clerk said the intervention is timely and he believes it will help to solve the problems faced by the traders
The Tororo municipal council deputy Mayor Beatrice Achola applauded government for initiating this system that she believes is going to boost rent mobilization at the market so that the government can get more money to repay the loan that was solicited to construct the market from the African development bank.
