Creation of Nagongera district excites local leaders.
Residents of Greater West Budama North are celebrating the creation of Nagongera district.
Nagongera district is among the three districts and one city that the President recently proposed to be created out of Tororo district.
While the creation has been received with resentment in most areas in the two constituencies, residents are planning to hold a celebration to express their excitement.
During a planning meeting held today at the proposed Nagongera district headquarters, leaders welcomed the creation of the new district saying that they have all the reasons to be excited.
James Onyango the interim chairperson organizing committee for the proposed celebration said they welcome the creation of the new district wholeheartedly.
Onyango says they wished Nagongera district should have been curved long time,it would have saved most people from trekking long distances to access social services.
Azalia Wodi’Owino the LC5 councilor representing Sop Sop Sub County says Nagongera town council that has been suggested to host the head quarters of the new district has enough land and all other social amenities including the school, health centre four that can easily be upgraded to a hospital.
Janet Achieng the female LC5 councilor representing Kirewa and Soni sub counties appealed to the central government to speed up the process of operational zing the new district to relieve people from the challenges that they have been undergoing in a bid to access social services.
Equally Obbo Oketch the LC5councilor representing Nagongera Town Council thanked the president for fronting the proposal which he said is going to end the conflict between the Iteso from Tororo County and the Jopadhola communities which was incidentally being taken as a project by some politicians.
He appealed to other leaders who were opposed to the naming and location of the new district as Nagongera to unite and see how the new district develops.
The planning meeting ended up with the leaders unanimously endorsing President Museveni as the NRM party presidential candidate for 2026.
The leaders led by Miria Okumu a female LC5 councilor representing Sere and Paya sub counties pledged to mobilize for the NRM party door to door at their own cost as appreciation.
