Tororo district woman MP hopfel pledges to improve on access to social services

The Tororo District Woman Member of Parliament hopeful, Angela Akoth, has pledged to lobby with the central government to improve access to social services in the district.

While traversing Morukatipe sub-county to canvass for support ahead of the 2026 general elections, Akoth, who spoke with rolling tears in consolation of the service delivery deficit that the district has faced for a couple of years, asked the people of Tororo district to open their eyes to enable them to elect leaders who will support them.

She said with her vast experience on legal matters, her leadership with be centred on advocating for respect to human rights through improved service delivery in all sectors.

Akoth said she is shocked to learn that most of the villages in the 20th Century still do not have water sources, forcing mothers to trek long distances to search for clean and safe water to safeguard their marriages.

She is also pushing for an increased health budget for Tororo district with focus on improving maternal health services at Tororo district hospital as well as lower health centres.

A graduate of law says she intends to advocate for the subsidisation of menstrual health products to improve access and prevent girls from dropping out of school.

She disclosed that she will lobby with educational institutions like colleges and universities to offer bursaries and scholarships to help support bright students from economically disadvantaged families.

As a demonstration of long-awaited change of leadership, in most venues, voters gifted her with various items, including hard cash and domestic birds, which the voters said were part of their contribution to facilitate her campaigns.

Akoth is contesting against the incumbent, Sarah Opendi.

She applauded the people of Tororo for entrusting her sister, Opendi, with the vote for the last 15 years. Still, she expressed disappointment that, despite holding ministerial positions, she failed to set up even one project that would make the women of Tororo proud, over the entire three terms.
