Ambassador Phoebe Awere Otaala Empowers Tororo Youth Through Skilling
Hundreds of Youths from various parts of Tororo District have gathered at Helping Hands Skilling centre in Kasoli village in the Eastern division of Tororo Municipality undergoing trainings in various skills.
The skilling project was started by Amb. Phibby Awere Otaala with an aim of empowering underprivileged youth in Tororo through skilling.
Amb. Phibby has hired several professional instructors in various fields including driving, mechanics, ICT, salon and hair dressing, building, wielding and fabrication, fashion and design among others to tutor the boys and girls to acquire various skills.
She is also practicing the 4 acre model farming at the same school. The move by Amb. Phibby is in line with President Yoweri Museveni’s initiative of skilling the boys and girls started in 2017 purposely to empower the under privileged youths in Kampala.
The initiative has since been spreading to various parts of the country.
On Wednesday, the students were oriented by several instructors including officials from Centenary Rural Development bank who will offer them skills on financial literacy.
Amb Phibby said she opted for this project to help amplify the President’s dream of driving especially the youths out of poverty through skilling.
She said majority of the enrolled students are from streets, child mothers and fathers, while others due to unemployment were soaked in alcohol and drugs.
She said upon completion of the training, the students will graduate and be awarded certificates in various disciplines they have studied and started up kits.
