Minister Asamo cautions Ikileng against abuse of office.

The state minister for disability Helen Grace Asamo has issued a strong caution against Simon Peter Ikileng, the chairperson of Tororo district disability council to stop extorting funds from people with disabilities on grounds of helping form groups. 

Asamo said she will not tolerate actions of individuals who want to ride the ignorance of the disabled people for their own benefits adding that she had received several complaints across the district of Ikileng moving around picking money from disabled people. 

Asamo said Ikileng being a politician can be an implementer of the disability affairs and yet the community development officers employed who are resourceful personnel employed government are there to guide the residents in group formations. Asamo made the remarks last Thursday during a meeting with district and municipal official to access the progress of the implementation of government programs specifically benefiting the people with disabilities. ‘’Why are you looking for curses by extorting from the less privileged. It’s not a big miracle that your name has appeared in most of people complaining about you. I do expect all the leaders to mobilize to by benefit from government programs and not to think of them selves’’ she said. 

 When given an opportunity to defend himself, Ikileng instead began educating the minister about her own ministerial policy documents on what is required for groups to be formed. The minister quickly interjected by cautioning Ikileng to stop looking for cheap reasoning or else she hands him to the resident district commissioner to do further investigations. 

The minister was later briefed on the progress of the National Special Grants for PWD program, Parish Development Model [PDM], and Emyooga programs. She later went on fact finding mission where she visited a number of beneficiaries in the municipality.
